HISTORY OF DEMOCRACY TRADING CARDS

Pack No.3

The Perennial Sophomore opens another pack from The History of Democracy Picture Card Series. Five more cards, one more excursion through mankind’s continuing experiment in self-government—and the lingering suspicion that the gum may be easier to digest than the history.

Collect them. Trade them. Chew on them.

FOR THE LOVE OF BREAD
A true incident from the winter of 1944–45, when Pvt. Eddie Slovik was executed for desertion in France—the only American serviceman executed for desertion during World War II. So when two 18-year-old GIs watched their troop train disappear without them, they weren’t thinking about the bread. They were thinking about blindfolds and last meals. At least they already had the bread.
